Pizza is undoubtedly one of the world’s most beloved foods, and puff pastry is the epitome of flaky, buttery goodness. Combine the two, and you get a delightful fusion of flavors and textures that’s perfect for any occasion! For this recipe I wanted to give you a delicious recipe that is also perfect for this Halloween season. These mouthwatering creations are not only easy to make but also a crowd-pleaser. Whether you’re hosting a party, looking for a tasty snack, or simply craving a cheesy, crispy treat, these recipes have got you covered 🙂
Recipe tips:
Puff Pastry: This recipe calls for puff pastry. You can make your own but I find it easier to buy it from the store. You should be able to find it in the frozen section usually near the desserts and pie shells. You can use another form of dough like pie dough but the recipe will be different and not nearly as flaky!
Pans: Anytime you’re baking you want nice quality baking pans. For this recipe I used these Baker’s Secret Cookie Sheets and they bake up perfect every time!
Filing: Don’t be tempted to overfill these! You really want to make sure the filling is enough but doesn’t make it so you cannot seal the dough. When adding the fillings leave about 1/4 inch around the edges of just the dough to allow better sealing and not have the filling ooze out.
Get creative!: Feel free to use other pizza toppings like mushrooms, sausage, Oregano etc. Whatever your favorite pizza toppings are will taste amazing in this recipe, I promise 🙂
Doubling the recipe: This recipe makes 4 pastries, so if I’m making this for a party or get together I like to double the recipe!
This recipe is so easy, fun to make with the kids, and perfect for Halloween! I’m a sucker for appetizer like meals for dinner and this recipe fits the bill. If you end up trying it please leave a rating and review below! 🙂
Puff Pastry Pizza Ghosts
Equipment
- 1 4 inch ghost cookie cutter
- 1 small round piping tip
Ingredients
- 1 17.3 oz frozen puff pastry sheets
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup pepperoni slices
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400° and allow the puff pastry sheets to defrost at room temperature for 15-20 minutes. Cut 4 ghosts out of each sheet, 8 in total. Spoon sauce onto the center of 4 of the 8 ghosts and spread, leaving ¼ inch without the sauce. Top with 3-4 slices of pepperoni and 2-3 tbsp mozzarella cheese.
- For the other 4 ghosts, use the round piping tip to punch out 2 eyes and a mouth. Place over top of each of the pizza ghosts and gently press down the edges to seal.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg and water with a fork until combined. Use the pastry brush to egg wash the top of each ghost. Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown. Allow to cool for 3-5 minutes before serving!
