I love a good appetizer. In fact, I feel like I could live off of apps and make that dinner 6 nights out of the week. Baked Brie is a recipe that was introduced to me by my sister in law a couple of years ago and it’s been one of my favorites ever since. I love that you can top if with different jams or honey, pop it in the oven and have an amazing app in 20 minutes. Typically we make this for Thanksgiving but I thought it would be so fun to wrap it up and make it look like a mummy. Easy, perfectly themed and delicious!
Recipe tips:
- Choosing the Right Brie: Opt for a good-quality brie cheese. Look for one that is ripe but not overly runny. You want it to melt beautifully but still hold its shape while baking.
- Puff Pastry Handling: Ensure the puff pastry is thawed according to the package instructions. If it’s too warm, it can become sticky and difficult to handle. If it’s too cold, it might crack when rolled. Keeping it slightly chilled while working can make it more manageable.
- Customize with Fillings: Experiment with different fillings! For this recipe I used raspberry preserves, but you can use honey, other jams, or try adding caramelized onions, dried fruits like cranberries or figs, or a drizzle of balsamic glaze for a unique flavor profile.
- Egg Wash Tips: To achieve a beautifully golden crust, brush the beaten egg lightly but thoroughly over the puff pastry. Too much egg wash can make the pastry too dark, and too little might result in a pale finish.
- Baking Time: Keep an eye on the pastry while it’s in the oven. Baking times might vary slightly based on the thickness of the pastry and the actual temperature of your oven. The aim is to bake until the pastry turns a rich golden color. Mine typically bakes for 20 minutes.
- Serving and Storage: Serve the baked brie while it’s warm for the best experience. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the oven for a short time to regain that delightful gooey consistency.
This Puff Pastry Baked Brie is not just a dish; it’s an experience. The simplicity of ingredients combined with the intricate flavors makes it a star at any gathering. This is a recipe that will disappear within minutes, and it’s so easy to customize it for Halloween! If you end up trying the recipe please leave a review and comment below 🙂
